KOOL MUSIC RETURNING TO SENECA NIAGARA CASINO

NIAGARA FALLS, NY, March 2005 - When Kool & The Gang performed at Seneca Niagara Casino's Bear's Den in November 2003, the show was a sell-out. The Casino is expecting the same result when the rhythm and blues artists responsible for such classics as "Celebration" and "Jungle Boogie" return on Saturday, May 21 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 and available at SenecaNiagaraCasino.com, Eight Clans Gift Shop, ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations, including Kaufmann's stores.

Kool & The Gang's story began in New Jersey's Jersey City projects. Bassist/keyboardist Robert "Kool" Bell, his brother, Ronald, and three high school friends listened to Miles Davis and James Brown while jamming in basements. In 1969, they made their first record and signed with DeLite Records in 1969.

Their confidence and creativity produced a string of highly successful horn-driven funk/dance records through the 1970s, culminating with a number one hit in 1979, "Ladies Night." For hits like "Jungle Boogie," Kool & The Gang only needed horns as a lead voice. They found a special sound at the unique intersection of jazz, rhythm and blues, funk and pop.

Their commercial success continued in the 1980s, shifting from danceable funk-disco to smooth, soulful pop over a string of successful albums. Hits like "Celebration," "Cherish" and "Joanna" made the group one of the most popular acts of the decade, replacing horns with rock guitars, computer synthesizers and mixers.

In 1995, Kool & The Gang reunited with vocalist J.T. Taylor, who had previously left to go solo, and released a comeback album, "State of Affairs," an international tour and their single, "Salute to the Ladies." In the mid 1990s, nostalgia for the 70s and 80s began to explode. Kool & The Gang's classic "Jungle Boogie" was featured in the multi-platinum soundtrack for the movie "Pulp Fiction." Classic hits like "Ladies Night," "Hollywood Swinging" and a host of others were revived with a hip hop twist from rap artists including Mase, Puff Daddy and Will Smith.

Kool & The Gang is one of the most enduring and popular urban music groups of the past quarter century, selling more than 70 million albums worldwide. Their songs have garnered two GRAMMY® Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten pop hits and 31 Gold and Platinum albums. Kool & The Gang has performed continuously for more than 30 years, longer than any other R&B group in history. Their ticket to longevity has been the evolution of their music.
